Attending conference on “Sustainable Crop Production in respond to Global Climate Change and Food Security (ACSA8 - 2014)”

From September 23 - 25th 2014, the Hanoi University of Agriculture (HUA) organized the Conference on “Sustainable Crop Production in respond to Global Climate Change and Food Security”. This conference is belong to the Asian Crop Science Association Conference (ACSA) with objective of strive for the promotion of human welfare by the establishment of sufficient and sustainable crop production system through the acquisition and exchange of knowledge on all aspects of crop science.


ACSA8 - 2014 aims to provide a venue for leading academic scientists, researchers and scholars to exchange and share their experiences and research results on the most current advances in environmental and crop sciences, including climate change and its impact on crop production, molecular approaches for crop improvement and approaches for crop morphology, physiology, ecology and cultivation responding to global climate change and food security.


This conference including sessions of:
1) Climate change and its impacts on crop production and society 
2) Molecular approaches for improving crop adaptation to climate change
3) Approaches for Crop Morphology, Physiology and Ecology to cope with climate change 
4) Innovative cultivation technology for enhancing crop production under climate change 
5) Crop resilience under global warming 
6) Plant physiology-based approaches to climate changes; impact of low to high temperatures and other disaster on crop productivity


Dr. Nguyen Vo Chau Ngan - PostDoctoral from SubProM project - attended this conference as an oral presenter with the topic “Estimation of gas emissions by rice straw burning from rice field - Case study in An Giang, Can Tho, Dong Thap and Kien Giang”. This presentation showing the calculation results from the farmers survey implemented at 400 households at four provinces where have highest rice cultivation area in the Mekong Delta. The estimated quantity of rice straw in the Mekong Delta region is approximate 26.23 million tons annually, in which 20.93 million tons is burned directly on the fields. This practice releases into the atmosphere with about 17.95 million tons of CO2, 485.58 thousand tons of CO and 10.38 thousand tons of NOx.
